Winter School Holiday Update: Extended Break Announced Amid Rising Cold

The winter chill has firmly set in across Rajasthan, with temperatures dropping steadily day by day. Keeping children’s health and safety as the highest priority, the Education Department has decided to extend the winter vacation period this year as well. The move is expected to benefit lakhs of students studying in both government and private schools and brings much-needed clarity to parents and school administrations regarding the academic schedule.

Winter Vacation to Start from December 25

As per the official academic calendar released by the Education Department, all schools in Rajasthan will remain closed from December 25, 2025. The winter holidays will continue until January 5, 2026, giving students a total of 12 days of vacation. Until the holidays officially begin, schools will function normally, except on regular Sundays falling in December.

Schools to Reopen on January 6

After the winter break, schools will resume classes from January 6, 2026. Once academic activities restart, special focus will be placed on syllabus planning and preparations for upcoming board examinations, ensuring that students remain on track despite the extended break.

Second Consecutive Year of Extended Winter Holidays

Earlier, winter vacations in Rajasthan typically ended on December 31. However, just like last year, the holidays have been extended till January 5 this time as well. Education Department officials explained that in previous years, sudden cold waves often forced district administrations to declare emergency holidays at short notice.

To avoid last-minute disruptions and ensure student safety, the vacation period has now been pre-planned and extended. Officials highlighted that late December and early January usually witness severe cold, dense fog, and sharply falling minimum temperatures, making early morning school commutes risky for children.

Indications of Winter Vacation in Uttar Pradesh Too

Meanwhile, rising cold conditions in Uttar Pradesh have also prompted discussions around winter vacations. According to signals from the Secondary Education Department and administrative sources, teaching activities may remain suspended until the end of December, subject to district-level weather conditions.

As per the tentative academic calendar, winter holidays in Uttar Pradesh schools are likely from December 20 to December 31, 2025, offering students around 12 days of winter break. If implemented, the academic session for 2025 may conclude within December itself, with schools reopening at the start of the new year.

Multiple Holidays Add to Student Relief in December

December already includes several scheduled holidays. The month has four Sundays, two of which have already passed. December 21, 2025, will be the third Sunday, followed by Christmas on December 25, a nationwide school holiday. The last Sunday on December 28 will further extend the rest period for students.

Conclusion

With intense winter conditions prevailing across northern India, the extended winter vacation decisions aim to prioritize children’s health, safety, and convenience. Early announcements have also helped parents and schools plan better, ensuring smoother academic management once schools reopen in the new year.
